Notes
This altar is believed to have been dedicated to Zeus due to its location at the entrance of the Cave of Zeus on Mount Ida in Crete, which is beleived to have been the birthplace and home of Zeus. Furthermore, the altar itself was carved directly into the natural rock at the entrance to the cave and was not assembled and then brought there. The altar was also recorded as being described by the ancient sage from Samos, Pythagoras. The sage wrote that he took part in ceremonies at the site in ancient times. The man has not yet been identified.
