6th century BCE Silver Bull

Item

File name

Title

6th century BCE Silver Bull

Description

This image is of what remains of a bull-shaped artifact made from thin sheets of silver metal from 6th century BCE Delphi. Enough of the bull remains to identify its shape, with most of the missing sheets leaving holes in the middle of the artifact.

Place name

Delphi (inhabited place)

Subject

Artifact

Notes

The description of the slide mentioned “tachydromos,” which in modern Greek means “mail service,” so perhaps this artifact was believed to have owned by a courier or is currently owned by one? The components of the word mean "speedy road," so it may suggest that it is a fast bull.
