Title

Crete Platon's Site

Description

This is an overview of an archaeological site below Viannos, which was excavated by Nikolaos Platon. The site is not yet excavated as of the photo capture, but stone walls are visible, forming a large building or building complex.

Place name

Káto Viánnos (inhabited place)

Subject

Archaeological Site
Landscape

Notes

The site is descriped as "below Viannos." Both Ano (Upper) and Kato (Lower) Viannos are towns in south Crete, very close to one another. The label indicates that this is "Platon's" site. Both Nikolaos Platon and Lefteris Platon (his son) are well-known Greek archaeologists who work on Crete, but the date indicates that Nikolaos Platon (1909-1992) must be the excavator referenced.

Date photographed

May 1975
