Dolphin Fresco of the Queen's Megaron at Knossos

Description

This frieze shows dolphins and other marine life. Only two of the dolphins were preserved, so the other have been reconstructed. Some other details are spiral decoration motifs on the walls and rosettes, painted to indicate that the rosettes replaced the spirals in the painting.

Notes

We have very little to no proof or evidence that this megaron was for a queen. We are still unsure on who, if anybody, ruled in the Minoan civilization. The story goes that this room gained its name after the archaeologist who excavated it walked in. He immediately decided that this room looked like the queen's room, and we have referred to it as the Queen's Megaron ever since.
