Notes
In ancient times, the Lilas river was known as the Lelantos River. This is where, presumably, the wider Lelantine Plain gets its name. The Lelantine Plain extends from Chalcis in the west to Eretria in the east. Control of the territory sparked a war between Chalcis and Eretria in the early Archaic period.
