The view includes the city itself as well as the mountains that surround it, the ocean in the background, and more mountains off in the distance beyond the ocean. There are signs of life nearby where this image was taken because of the tin roof that is visible through the bushes, but there are no people visible in the picture.

This picture was taken from the bottom of a hill facing up where the hillside is lined with stones on one side and low plant cover on the other. The excavated Minoan walls occupy the foreground of the image. In the middle ground, an unidentified woman is visible walking away from the camera into the cover of the olive trees at the top of the hill. Other objects of daily use, such as shirts and plastic bags, are placed under the trees. A donkey is visible in the background, with plastic bags for artifacts lined up near it while an unidentified man loads bags onto its back.
